This week we started a new unit on persuasive writing. We've talked about the following 5 strategies that people can use to convince others:
*Logos-appeals to facts and numbers
*Pathos-appeals to emotions
*Ethos-appeals to trust
*Kairos-appeals to time
*Research-using reliable research
Students are working on a persuasive paragraph about the pros or cons of having homework over winter break. They are to choose 1 position and support it using reasons, facts, and examples.
Format for the persuasive paragraph:
1) Thesis-include a Hook and sentence stating your position
2) Reason #1
3) Fact/Example that supports 1st reason
4) Reason #2
5) Fact/Example that supports 2nd reason
6) Reason #3
7) Fact/Example that supports 3rd reason
8) Sum-up-State the action you want your teachers to take in a forceful & convincing way!
