In Langauge Arts, students will build upon what they've learned last year about writing an ERR, or Extended Reading Response.
ERRs consist of thinking critically about what you've read by analyzing the material using information from the text and your own individual responses. In class, students will practice by using a planning sheet that guides students through each step in the process. For homework, they will tackle one on their own. Check out steps below.
Steps:
1) MAIN IDEA
*Introduce the story & author.
*Include a 1 sentence summary.
*Restate the prompt.
2) EVIDENCE
(Proof from the text)
(Must relate to your main idea)
3) INTERPRETATION
*Explain your evidence.
4) EVIDENCE

(Must relate to your main idea)
5) INTERPRETATION

6) EXTENSION
*Restate the prompt in a NEW way.
*Explain the lesson you learned.
*Apply this lesson to YOUR life.
You can use one of the following sentence starters when applying the lesson to YOUR life:
*(From ___________, I learned)
*(Now, I better understand…)
