In ELA, we have begun a new theme unit called "Family Ties." During the unit, we we will read a variety of text that involves different types of families and the relationship between its members. Students will analyze the role that families play in people's lives, especially the impact on the choices they make.
Our current classroom novel, Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli is about a young boy and his adventures as he searches for a family, a home. All of the reading will be done in class, and if needed, students can borrow a book to take home to complete assignments or study for a quiz at any time.
Also, students are reading an independent novel that they chose, which fits this theme. They have been keeping track of their reading on sticky notes. A project sheet is available on file cabinet with the details on the information that they should be noting.
