By now, students have chosen a fiction book of their choice. Their project is to complete a response journal and to participate in a reading conference with me. Check out the details and important due dates for the project.
1) Plot & Response Journal
As you read your novel, complete the worksheet with at least 10 entries to show your understanding of the book.

*Page #s read
*Plot summary - 1 to 2 sentences
*Response statement (include at least 2 of each) - prediction, question, reaction, or opinion
2) Reading Conference
You have an opportunity to earn up to 25 points for this reading conference.
*Ten points will be for retelling what you’ve read so far to help your teacher understand what is going on in your story.
*The remaining 15 points come from the questions below.
You will have 5 minutes with the teacher to discuss your book.
You can pick which questions you’d like to respond to.
Below you will find some of the questions you can pick from and how many points each question is worth.
Three Point Questions
*Do you like what you are reading? Why or why not?
*Describe how the main character looks and acts.
*What is your favorite part of the story so far? Why?
Five Point Questions
*After reading a couple of chapters, what does the title mean to you?
*Explain the characteristics of a character that reminds you of a real person you know and how they are similar in personality and/or appearance.
*Have you made any personal connections to the book? If so, what are they? If not, why is this different than anything in your own life?
