ERR...a.k.a. Extended Reading Response

This past week, students reviewed and applied their knowledge of how to write an Extended Reading Response, or ERRrrr! The ERR involves responding to a question by including facts from the text, their own opinions, and the lesson they learned from the passage.

Next week, we'll continue to practice using our current novel, Taking Sides. A quiz is also scheduled for Wednesday.

The following is a checklist with the parts of an ERR:
1) MAIN IDEA
*Introduce the article & author.
*Include a 1 sentence summary.
*Restate the prompt.

2) EVIDENCE #1
*proof from the text
*must relate to your main idea

3) INTERPRETATION #2
*Explain your evidence.

4) EVIDENCE #2
*proof from the text
*must relate to your main idea

5) INTERPRETATION #2
*Explain your evidence.

6) EXTENSION
*Restate the prompt in a NEW way.
*Explain the lesson you learned.
*Apply this lesson to YOUR life.
