YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!

By now, students have read at least 1 book from the Rebecca Caudill 2010 nominees list and taken an Accelerated Reader test. As they make their tough decision of who to vote for in March, students reviewed one that they've already read.

Here's my review of my last book pick.

Title: The Wednesday Wars
Author: Gary L. Schmidt

Summary: Did you ever feel that a teacher had it out for YOU? Well, you'll know how Holling Hoodhood feels after reading this book. Find out why he at first dreads his weekly battles with Mrs. Baker, but then realizes that she's not a monster after all. He actually ends up learning a thing or two besides how to diagram a sentence.

Book Review: This book has both funny and serious parts. Holling has a crush on a classmate, which gets a little complicated when their families get involved. You’ll also discover how families were affected during the Vietnam War.

Recommend this book: Both girls and guys will get into this book. Everyone can relate to the antics that go on in the classroom and the conflicts kids face at home. Even though Holling is in junior high, the author sometimes uses vocabulary words or subjects that are more grown-up so be prepared to expand your mind by reading his story.

My Rating: 4 Stars
