Responding to Text

This week in class, students have discussed how responding to text can help them better understand what they are reading. They are continuing to practice how to write a complete extended reading response, or ERR, by writing mini ones based on passages in the Buckle Down Reading workbook.

Here are some helpful tips:
*While reading, take a moment to stop and think over/reread what you've read.
*Keep track of the following main story elements: character, setting, conflict, and theme.
*Make a connection: connection-to-text, connection-to-self, or connection-to-world.
*Put yourself in the character's shoes.
*Use evidence (info from the text) to come up with an interpretation (your opinion about what this info means).
